How it all started...
Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church was organized in 1868 and built on the east bank of the Red River at Star Point. Third Sunday was designated as the monthly meeting day. In 1945, flood waters destroyed the church building, and it was rebuilt in 1946 on Highway 515--on William McClannan’s property. The records of our founders and pastors were lost or destroyed in the flood, but information was handed down that Rev. Martin Kyle was the pastor of this church for 50 plus years.
In 1958 Rev. Ike Bogan, Jr. was called to pastor. Active departments of the church were: Sunday School, Deacon Board, Usher Board, BTU and Women’s Mission. Under the leadership of Rev. Bogan the following departments were organized: Choir, Youth, Deaconess, Baptist Training Union (reorganized), Willing Worker, and Pastor’s Aid. Recently added departments are Brotherhood, Junior Women, and Intermediate Women.
January, 1971, the Church purchased land from Walter Mangham and construction of a new building began a few months later. On June 18, 1972, “Entering and Dedication Service” was held at our present location--Highway 71, north of Coushatta. June 25, 1972 four souls were baptized in the pool in the church.
The final note on the building was paid off on April 10, 1978. The Church voted to have worship service on first and third Sundays effective January, 1979. January, 1982, the Church voted to become a full-time church, effective the first Sunday in February.

Expanding the vision...
We, the members of the Mount Zion Baptist Church, continue to “press toward the mark for the higher, calling, which is in Christ Jesus.” We call upon the lord to bless our members and members everywhere that through His believers may souls may find their way into His saving power and into His Church.
Our Vision: “Fit For the Kingdom"
Our Mission: Make disciples who submit their whole life under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approves unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
